BEST FOR ME?
For the longest time, I kept telling myself I should get back into reading. I was convinced it had to be with a physical book — much more legit than listening to audiobooks, right? (Or so I thought.)
But I never really got around to it. Until one night, I passed out in the bathroom, hit my head, and ended up with a serious concussion.
After that, I couldn’t really look at screens or read. So I started listening to audiobooks. And then it just took off! Book after book, lesson after lesson — I was hooked, just like when I was younger.
Why had I told myself I couldn’t listen to books, that I needed to read them? After all, no books were getting read anyway.
It’s kind of like when people talk about working out, and we immediately think of hitting the gym — but is that really what works best for you? Are you actually doing it? Maybe a brisk walk or a jog would be just as effective.
Or when people talk about having an online presence, and you assume you need to be active on every social media platform — is that what’s best for you and your business? Are you posting consistently? Maybe it’s better to focus on just one or two.
The key question is: What actually works best for YOU? What gets results, instead of just getting stuck in “I should” mode?
WHAT'S PERFECT?
Perfection.
Easy to look up to. Hard to define what it actually means.
For me, a song, a text, or a film isn’t "perfect" because it follows all the rulebook's guidelines.
It's perfect if it meets my needs at the moment. Maybe I need a song that energizes or makes me happy. As long as it succeeds in doing that, I’ll like the song and keep listening to it.
Remember that the next time you communicate – it doesn’t have to be technically perfect. It’s more important that you connect with people.
Be human. Be yourself.
Because that’s how you make an impact, at least in my opinion 😊
CREATE A VIDEO?
Maybe you (like me) have wanted to make a video for LinkedIn but haven't quite gotten around to it?
Here are some basic steps I usually follow, which will hopefully help you get started:
It definitely doesn’t have to be a complicated video – just film a few seconds and post. Try it and go, go, go!
HOW ARE YOU?
"How are you?"
We ask this all the time, usually expecting a quick “I’m good.” But have you ever stopped to think if there’s more behind that answer?
For some colleagues, especially those with chronic or invisible illnesses, whether mental or physical, this question can be tough. Their struggles aren’t always visible, but they’re very real.
When I’ve said “I’m good” when I’m not, it added pressure and raised expectations—often making me feel even worse. And when I’ve said “Not great,” I’ve seen people get awkward or unsure of how to respond. Sometimes I’ve felt like I was being too negative. Maybe you’ve felt that too?
So, what if we tried something different?
By being more genuine and vulnerable in how we ask and answer, we can create real connections and support each other better. It’s okay not to be okay every day. If someone says “Not great,” be brave enough to ask more, but also respect if they’d rather not dive into it.
Show them: I see you, and I feel with you.
It’s a small change, but it can make a big difference—especially if you’re responsible for others. Try it this week and see if you notice a difference!
IT'S TIME
You know that feeling you've had for several years. You know what you need to do, but it's so comfortable where you are right now. You don't really know how to take that step, and it takes a lot of courage. But you really want to do it because you know you have to.
But now it's time...
For the past two years, I've been running Sahlin Communication AB and working as a consultant. I now want to focus more on 'Communication that attracts' and also build on 'Communication around invisible illness'. I want to share my experiences to help others, and there's much to do.
So follow me on this journey. Be a part of it. Connect with me, and let's help each other. I'm truly convinced we can create a lot of good together.
